Festival Players of Prince Edward County is the region’s professional theatre company.
For more than 10 years, we have been bringing the beautiful landscapes, towns and villages of the County to life through the incredible power of theatre.
Founded in 2006 by John Burns, and led by Artistic Director Sarah Phillips from 2007-2016, Festival Players has produced and presented work by some of Canada’s finest theatre artists including world premieres of new works by Dave Carley (A Splinter in the Heart), and John Gray (Amelia: The Girl who Wanted to Fly). Productions have taken place in a century-old barn, under a tent in an estate vineyard, in a village church-turned-theatre, and on the beautiful properties of many of the County’s finest agricultural and hospitality businesses.
Festival Players is led by Artistic Director Graham Abbey.
Festival Players of Prince Edward County announced that Graham Abbey, acclaimed stage, TV and film actor, director and founder of The Groundling Theatre Company, will assume the role of Artistic Director, with 2018 being his first season in this role. Abbey, with over 30 Stratford roles to his credit has just come off of an impressive run with two critically acclaimed productions, The Winter’s Tale and Measure for Measure, that played to sold out audiences at the Winter Garden Theatre in Toronto.
“Festival Players has done a tremendous job in not only building demand for professional theatre in Prince Edward County, but also laying the foundation for it to flourish in one of the most culturally rich regions in Canada. I am extremely honoured to join this remarkable organization, and look forward to sharing my vision in 2018 and being a part of the thrilling future that is in store,” commented Abbey.
