Busy Hands – Vicki’s Veggies & Friends Annual Christmas Craft & Gift Sale 2009
A few years ago, a collection of artisans got together to sell their wares out of a kitchen and living room at holiday time. It grew into one of the most anticipated holiday County craft sales and has kept its rootsy character. Vicki’s Veggies and Honey Pie Hives & Herbals present a collection of hand made local wares including artwork, handspuns, photography, preserves, soaps, candles, clothing, baked goods, jewelery and much more! Upstairs at Books & Company in Picton, more than 30 participants show and offer their stuff for sale – with the focus on natural, unprocessed, locally-sourced and crafted things. Feel good about consuming! Help stimulate a small, local economy and give the environment a break from mass production and trans-global shipping.
Festival Players will be there and it’s a chance to get your 2010 Flex Passes. Only $67.00 until Dec 24. That’s a 30% discount!
So come on out to Books & Co. (289 Main Street, Picton) and see what our Busy Hands have been up to.

Charity Benefit Nights
Festival Players has partnered with select charities, whose missions and mandates relate in some way to the productions in our 2009 Season. The charities receive discounted tickets for their members and a percentage of the total ticket revenues from their special night.
Theatre-goers are encouraged to come out to preview performances to support these local charities and get a sneak peek at the seasons’ shows. Plus preview tickets are $20 – save 30%!
The Benefit Nights are as follows:
Ship of Fire – Wednesday July 8 @ 8pm
Benefit Night for Mariner’s Park Museum.
Schoolhouse – Wednesday July 22 @ 6:30pm
Benefit Night for Quinte Educational Museum & Archives (QEMA) and Macaulay Heritage Park.
Colours in the Storm – Wednesday August 5 @ 8pm
Benefit Night for Quinte Conservation.
A limited number of tickets can be purchased directly through the charities themselves. Or contact our Box Office.

Playwright Reading Series
Mark your calendars! Festival Players is thrilled to offer our Playwright Reading Series again this year. It’s an excellent way to learn about the process of creating a work for the stage. Playwrights will read from their plays, and perform music from it (if applicable), then open up the floor to questions.
If you’ve ever wondered how a play is created, this series is for you. Get answers to questions like: How do you take a historical figure (or time period, or event) and create a play? Why a play and not a book? What makes it alive on stage? Do you write lyrics for the songs first or do the tunes appear first? How did you ‘become’ a writer? Why theatre?
Admission is free. Light refreshments will be available. The whole thing lasts about an hour and a half.
Sun May 3 - Ship of Fire with Suzanne Pasternak and friends
Sun June 7 - Schoolhouse with Leanna Brodie
Sun June 28 – Colours in the Storm with Jim Betts
All readings start at 2pm upstairs at Books & Co, 289 Main St in Picton.
Many thanks to Alexandra Bake for allowing us use of their lovely space again this year.
