Festival Players Presents

Michael Healey – Reading 1979

Monday August 13th, 2018
The Studio Theatre

Michael Healey will read from his latest play 1979, about Joe Clark who became Canada’s 16th prime minister at the age of 39 in the spring of 1979. By Christmas, it was all over. His minority government fell when he refused to compromise his principles to get his first budget passed. 1979 is a comedy about the struggle Joe Clark engaged in to keep things together when all about him were losing their heads. He meets with friends, rivals, his wife and even a very young Stephen Harper, all of whom know exactly what he should do to cling to power. A new political comedy from the author of The Drawer Boy.
